The Buttercross Belles

Greenham

"In 1981, the British government made a decision to allow 96 cruise missiles to be housed on the American airbase at Greenham Common. At the time, there were more than 100 such American bases in Britain and 13 nuclear power stations. A group of women from Wales marched to the camp to request a debate on the future of the world. When no debate was forthcoming, the women and other supporters in increasing numbers set up a peace camp outside the gates to draw attention to the issue of nuclear weapons and their consequences."

"Greenham" was created by the women as a protest dance against the Nuclear weapons.
